چکیده
In literature, the concept of material gradation is shown to inhibit surface crack initiation in glass/ceramic composites subjected Hertzian indentation. However, cracks could yet initiate due relatively higher loadings or presence flaws/defects. Hence, characterization graded concerning resistance against and propagation manifests itself as a prominent matter. this study, axisymmetric evolving propelled by rigid cylindrical punch are investigated employing novel recursive method, called stacked-node procedure. Crack trajectories their susceptibilities predicted via minimum strain energy density (MSED) criterion regarding growth (R-curve) ceramics. The stress trajectory approach also considered for homogeneous glass reveal reliance effectiveness MSED present problems. Mori–Tanaka relations adopted model elastic modulus Poisson's ratio variations through composites, which implemented on simulations finite element approach. problem practically producible composite comprised oxynitride fine-grained silicon nitride ceramics (Si3N4) treated case study. degree assessed mitigation risks.

Fracture and Fatigue Crack Propagation in Graded Composites
The propagation of cracks in graded materials under monotonic and cyclic loading was investigated via experiment and simulation. Graded alumina/epoxy composite specimens exhibiting a variation in composition from 5% to 65% epoxy, representing a twenty-fold variation in Young’s modulus, across a region of width between 6 and 20 mm, were produced by a multistep infiltration technique. Crack initi...
متن کاملMixed Mode Crack Propagation of Zirconia/Nickel Functionally Graded Materials
Zirconia-nickel functionally graded materials were obtained by powder metallurgy technique. The microstructure, residual stress, fracture toughness and Vickers hardness were investigated. Mixed-mode fracture response of YSZ /Ni functionally graded materials was examined utilizing the three point bending test and finite element method (Cosmos/M 2.7). The results show that the stress intensity fac...
متن کاملFinite Element Modeling of Delamination Crack Propagation in Laminated Composites
Finite element analysis of the delamination crack propagation in laminated composites is presented. Fracture mechanics based Virtual Crack Closure Technique (VCCT), and the cohesive element technique, have been used to simulate the delamination initiation and propagation under Mode-I type loading. Detailed description of the parameter selection process for these two techniques with ABAQUS®/Stan...
متن کاملFatigue-Crack Propagation Behavior of Ductile/Brittle Laminated Composites
A study has been made of the fatigue-crack propagation properties of a series of laminated Nbreinforced Nb3Al intermetallic-matrix composites with varying microstructural scale but nominally identical reinforcement volume fraction (20 pct Nb). It was found that resistance to fatigue-crack growth improved with increasing metallic layer thickness (in the range 50 to 250 mm) both in the crack-divi...
متن کاملFracture Toughness of Wood and Wood Composites during Crack Propagation
The mode I fracture toughness as a function of crack length of medium density fiberboard (MDF), particle board (PB), and Douglas-fir (DF) were all measured using a new energy-based method. PB and MDF are examples of composites that develop fiber bridging during crack propagation, which causes their toughness to increase with crack length. Longitudinal cracks in DF also displayed fiber bridging ...
